Canadian Indie Pop Soloist VEL began his music adventure in 2018. Creating music from his bedroom studio, he began to fall in love with lush synthesizers and up tempo drum rhythms. With years of experience playing piano from a young age and learning to sing on his own, VEL began to perform in local areas in his beginning town of Waterloo.
VEL (Nathan Tarasko) is a blend of indie pop, synth-pop and dance-pop. He believes that keeping music simple with intentional, playful lyricism is more important than the traditional approach to a pop song. Inspired by the works of HONNE, LAUV, John Newman, LANY, Charlie Puth and Bridgit Mendler; VEL aims to write impelling stories that create emotional memories.
Releasing two singles in 2018 independently, the somber yet energetic 'RUINS' and the emotional breakup hit 'WHERE IT HURTS', VEL easily hit the 100,000 stream mark on Spotify. Having taken more time to focus on his sound and discover the stories he wants to share, VEL is scheduled to released his full EP in late 2020.
VEL released his debut single 'RUINS' in July of 2018 which has amassed over 40k streams on Spotify alone. The sleeper song release managed to spark interest in VEL from around the world. Gaining more followers and confidence allowed VEL to begin performing in local areas in Canada.
WHERE IT HURTS, 2018
VEL went on to release his biggest hit with 2018's 'WHERE IT HURTS'. Amassing over 90k streams to date the breakup dance hit described as a 'bop' was featured on Spotify's 'New Music Friday Canada' playlist as well as their 'Fresh Finds', 'It's a Bop' and 'Fresh Finds: Poptronix' playlist.
